Fire departments play an important role in protecting our communities and many of them are staffed by volunteer firefighters who are trained to extinguish hazardous fires that threaten life and the environment. To show our support for these brave volunteers, including our own employee volunteer firefighters, we created S.A.F.E.: Sharing Appreciation for Fire Department Excellence

S.A.F.E. is a new volunteer fire department recognition program available to the VFDs in our service territory and is intended to provide funding that will keep these departments strong and functional for our communities. We will distribute two $2,500 donations per month to volunteer fire departments that meet the minimum requirements of the application process:

  • Volunteer fire  department must be located in Peoples' service territory
  • Application must include a brief description of how the department promotes 811 and carbon monoxide detectors
  • Fire department must be a 501(c) charitable organization and must be able to supply an up-to-date W-9

Interested in applying or nominating a VFD? Download the application and return it to Communications@peoples-gas.com or via mail to Community Relations, Peoples, 375 North Shore Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15212.

You only need to submit your station once - if your VFD is not chosen for the month that you nominate it, it will be considered for future donations throughout the year.
